A Man Possessed

Tigerlily 04:41
Found my first love on a holiday At a campground half an hour’s drive from Apollo Bay Just a couple of kids simply splashing round Til the shore break hit and you grabbed my arm as I almost drowned Cause I’ve been throwing out your name into the sea Cause I’ve been carving out your name within the trees Cause I’ve been calling out your name into the breeze For years it seems Your dad passed on back in 95 I watched you medicate with alcohol just to survive Tried pulled you back when you went too far When you found yourself in the backseat of some stranger’s car You only get one first love in your lifetime I’ll never forget you no matter how hard I try I saw you last night, what a way to meet I was halfway drunk and singing songs on Brunswick Street You were all dolled up, didn’t have time to stay Just a quick hello and something about your wedding day

Wheels Up 04:41
Flying out across the water looking out across the sea There ain’t no one in my row of seats or right in front of me But there’s a tightness in my chest I shut my eyes and try to rest and get some sleep I left everything behind me, I packed up and headed west I got a some work up in Kalgoorlie, where they put me to the test I only lasted 90 days And I drank away my pay like all the rest Will this old hunk of metal take me home Or on into the sunset and unknown Or am I cursed to always fly alone I’ve always been a traveller, driven on by wanderlust And a deeply rooted fear of who to love and who to trust I go by many different names And the blood within my veins is desert dust I heard that if you keep on moving you won’t gather any moss But what they failed to mention is the underlying cost Of moving on from place to place The disappointment in the face of those you’ve lost

Lean Into Me 03:59
And I wrestle with this aching gut As you’re staring up to me Are you lost amongst the tidal waves? Of loss and misery Do you want some place to call your own? On a road that never ends Or do you want me to just shut my mouth? So we can start again Come on brother Come on soul Come on and reach out for me But time just seems to linger on And I just wanna save the day But I realise 'cause I’ve been right there There’s nothing I can say So I’ll be here til the break of dawn And I’ll never say a word I’ll never be the one to judge Yeah just 'cause I have learned So if you ever need a friend to call I’ll stop my life and I’ll be there 'Cause this road you’re on is not one way In case you weren’t aware

Hard and full of pride We were shooting the breeze on the day you died Out by the paper mill Where the river flows past the Queens Park hill All quiet with a slight south breeze Sweat on our hands and dirt on our knees And I tried to not let go But I hadn’t the strength and man I moved too slow Some mistakes can’t be undone So you carry the weight like a loaded gun Some mistakes you can’t make right And they’re the ones that keep you awake at night No one could meet my eye Your father was pale and your mum just cried My folks they tried their best They held my hand while you were laid to rest While the crowd gave sideways looks I stood at the grass while my legs just shook The tears began to fall As I dropped to my knees and began to bawl Too young to face arrest So I carry the weight just like a man possessed I carry the weight like a man possessed I carry the weight like a man possessed

I see the sunset over the rise It’s dropping little cannonballs deep in disguise And I know it might be the last one that I’ll ever see I hear the sirens from out past the bridge They’re singing my name 'cause they know what I did And I know that they’re gunning, gunning for me But there are dogs out on my trail I’ve got the hounds of hell on my tail Will they catch me when I hit the fence? Man I swear it was self defence I hear a train blow and pierce through the night If I can make it past the highway maybe I will be alright And I know I’ve gotta keep moving if I wanna be free I see the sunrise peek over the hill I’m stained with the blood of the man that I killed And I know I’ve gotta become the ghost in the fog And I know I’ve gotta become the ghost in the fog

Holding On 07:04
The first town she stopped in She decided to stay Probably wasn’t one of the smartest of moves But she didn’t care either way Got a job slinging coffee At the road house just north of town Back to back shifts for only a couple of bucks Still she knew that she couldn’t turn around A shitty new town to begin in A place where her kids could forget Changed their names like she changed their location Dyed her hair from golden blonde to brunette While the record spins over and over and over She’s holding on for the little ones She’s reaching out for something real tonight She’s told herself I don’t need anyone She’s sung that song so many times She’s starting to believe in it She woke in the morning To a sharp knock on the door She swore she’d made all the payments Oh but still they cried out for more She tiptoed back through to the kitchen A four square of Lego jammed deep into her feet She bites her tongue before screams to high hell Cause she don’t want to disrupt their sleep Pokes her head through doors of their bedrooms She glides in and then kisses their cheeks Oh the credit card can wait another fortnight Just as long as there’s some food to eat While the record spins over and over and over She sings the songs back to herself While the record spins round in her head (Only the lonely )

about

Nathan Seeckts Geelong, Australia

Seemingly hewn from Bellarine Peninsula basalt, Seeckts’ vocal is imbued with all the heart worn grit of Steve Earle, grounding songs that are alternately heaving, shivering and jangling with feeling. Whether punching out a heartland belter or immersed in a nostalgic reverie, Nathan Seeckts delivers immense humanity, compassion, and catharsis. ... more
